Hello, world!

Today my latest novel, The Blood Gospel, makes its way into the world. I’m especially excited abut this one. I wrote it with the very talented James Rollins and I can’t wait to see how the world responds to it. We’re doing a tour, but we can’t be everywhere. If you see pictures of the book out there in the wild, please either email them to me at rebecca AT rebeccacantrell DOT com or post the on my Facebook page.

Happy reading, everyone!

  1. I just started reading Blood Gospel this weekend and I can’t put it down. The premise is intriguing and I love the pace – it will keep you on the edge of the seat, wanting more!

    • Thank you! The Blood Gospel was a lot of fun to write! As for more, the sequel should be out this time next year. It’s currently titled “A Punishment of Silver,” but that might change.

  2. Just finished the book, excellently written by two of my favorite authors. Kept me wanting to find out what was next. Can’t wait for the next book!!

    • Thanks! Next up? The sequel next year! Right now, we’re calling it “Punishment of Silver,” but that may change.

  3. I now have blood gospel. Read city of screams. But it was a little mixed up. How many episodes are you expecting in blood gospel series? Do you love writing with james rollins?

    • It is a little easier to follow if you read City of Screams first. 🙂

We are planning an initial trilogy with these characters; then a second trilogy with a different arc.

And, yes, I do love writing with James Rollins. How could I not?

  4. Hehe the best writer ever. I havent read you before. blood gospel is far different from jamesrollinsish novels.

  5. That’s because we worked together. It came out different from both of our stuff in the end, which was great fun.

  6. Great new series. I am a huge Rollins fan and luckily stumbled upon this looking for his next. Very different from Rollins, but no less entertaining and very well written. I find myself more and more attracted to stories with more grey, and less black and white.

So what are your plans for this series? How many and when can we expect the next one?

Thanks for taking the time to entertain!

    • Thank you! It’s been a bit of a departure but a lot of fun for both of us. The books will definitely delve into gray areas in the world.

We are planning to write a trilogy for this story arc, then a second one with a new set of story concerns. We’re almost done with book 2 “A Punishment of Silver,” which is due out early next year.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  7. I am a huge fan of Ms. Cantrell. I admire her ability to weave an excellent mystery into a marvelous episode of history. I have learned quite a lot about the Weinmar era.

I was excited when I picked up Blood Gospel, hoping it would be another education/interpretation of the Christian gospel.

But vampires? Really? So disappointing. Yes, I finished it (oddly enough on Easter morning), but won’t be reading any others in the series.

From a disappointed fan of historical fiction.

    • I’m very sorry to hear that you did not like The Blood Gospel. As a writer, I go where the stories take me, and sometimes they take me into new and different places. Hopefully you’ll give my other, non-vampire, books another chance.

  8. Just finished reading The Blood Gospel. Couldn’t put it down. Recommending it to everyone. So ready to read the next one in the series. Well done!

    • Thanks! Glad you liked it! The next one is officially titled “Innocent Blood.” It’s due out early in 2014.

  9. The Blood Gospel was awesome!!! It was the first time I’d read anything by James Rollins or Rebecca Cantrell and I finished it in less than 24 hours! Already itching for another one!!

  10. An excellent read. i love a book that can weave historical events into the story line and then leave one with the thought….what if…. A truly great story leads the reader down the path that the story line is completely possible and is happening all around us with no one knowing. The characters are all believeable and one can feel there passion in the story. I can’t wait for the next novel so we can follow the adventures further….

  11. Could not put it down. I have been a fan of James Rollins and now a fan of yours — can’t wait for the next one!!!

  12. Just finished Blood Gospel and am sooo upset!!! I want the sequel now and don’t want to wait!!! What a great read! I love when an author takes a well know subject or two and weaves them together in such a believable way. The ending leaves so many possible paths the next book may take. I guess I’m just forced into waiting. I will probably feel like Piers. Hurry, please!!

  13. I just finished Blood Gospel. Read it in a few short days. I love historical books weaved with fiction. Love learning about places and history in this fun way. The surprise here was the vampire twist. I wasn’t sure at the beginning of the book if it would be a book I would finish. I had mixed feelings of reading about Jesus creating basically a warrier to fight evil. But as I kept reading it made since the logic behind the story. I loved the archaeology and the different countries brought into the mix. Funny thing is by mid book the villian that I hated in the story “Rhun” became the hero in my mind. The humanity is there even if evil had its play time in the life. Erin’s character shows a lovely mix of the science and history specialist who learns her strengths are more than her brain. She is strong even in fear, compasionate even during times of stress. Jordan compiments her in balance. These are well developed characters. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. A job well done by both you and James Rollins. I will have to explore other books that you Rebecca and James have written in the mean time. Would love to see how your individual style was combined in this book.

    • Thank you! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it so much!

Rhun is a complicated character. He has done terrible things, and he carries within him the seeds of evil, but he tries so hard to do good that it’s hard not to feel for him.

The next book, Innocent Blood, is much harder for him.

  14. A good story should take you on an adventure with intriguing characters to amazing lands in pursuit of an elusive goal. Well done! I look forward to the next installment. Hurry please!

  15. I just found out “Innocent Blood” is coming out in December. I fell in love with this book and the pre-release short story “City of Screams.” Is there a planned short story or just before your next trilogy with the new arc you discussed in this blog.

    • We’re starting on that this week, so I’m pretty sure there will be a short story for the pre-release of INNOCENT BLOOD. I’m guessing around Halloween, but I don’t know for sure.

  16. Just finished it. Just loved it. Just can’t wait until the next one.

  17. I absolutely love this book!!!! Can not wait for the next one. Love all the details.

  18. I just finished Blood Gospel – I love when Biblical concepts are mixed with fiction and myth and fact – nothing better in my mind for a great novel. I know you are both collaborating, but I hope you add James’ trademark end notes about the fact/fiction portions of his novels – maybe at the end of the last book of this trilogy? Thanks for a great read!
